NFE Completes Project for US Army Corp of Engineers

Nowak & Fraus Engineers (NFE) expanded its services in the Federal Sector in working with the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to assist Granger Construction Company, Neumann Smith Architecture, and Carl Walker Parking Consultants on the new 2011 USACE Administration Building and Parking Structure constructed at the Detroit Arsenal (TACOM) facility in Warren, Michigan.  This project has been selected by the Construction Association of Michigan as one of the top 12 projects of 2010 in the State of Michigan.

Nowak & Fraus Engineers provided full service land surveying, civil engineering, and landscape design services for the development of the site infrastructure for the 227,000 SF Administrative Facility as well as a 583,500 SF Parking Structure.  The Administrative building provides space for approximately 1,100 personnel while the parking structure provides space for approximately 1,800 vehicles.

The USACE Administration Building and Parking Structure located in
Warren, Michigan was opened in September 2010 and was selected by CAM Magazine as
one of the top 12 projects of 2010 in the State of Michigan.

This project was developed with a Design-Build project delivery system to provide for fast-track design of multiple bid package drawings for various trades. This type of fast-pace delivery required NFE to complete the final design of site utility and infrastructure improvements for the building and parking structure while these two facilities were still in the schematic and design development phases.

NFE’s scope of work included the design of several grade level temporary parking lots for use during construction of the parking structure. In addition, extensive storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water main improvements were designed to service the new building and to plan for future site improvements. Finally, Pershing Drive and Eisenhower Drive were widened to provide for increased pedestrian safety and vehicular traffic flow as a result of the new facilities.
