Nowak and Fraus Employees Volunteer to Help Low Income Senior in Pontiac
Earlier this year, a team of Nowak & Fraus Engineers (NFE) volunteers had the opportunity to step away from their computers and job sites and went to work by sharing their time and individual talents for the benefit of others! NFE recognizes the overwhelming needs of many residents within the communities we work. We are thankful to be able to participate in the Christmas-In-Action (CIA) program which allows us an opportunity to contribute back to our communities and improve a senior citizen’s quality of life.
For the ninth straight year, NFE had the opportunity to participate in CIA of Oakland County marathon workday. This benevolent organization provides FREE home repairs to handicapped, low income senior homeowners in communities throughout the region to help maintain decent, safe and sanitary housing. Homes are selected for repairs by CIA from a multitude of applications and then teams of volunteers are recruited to complete the required work at each site during a one day marathon work session.
This year, NFE assisted an elderly resident in the City of Pontiac. Although the temperature that day was low, the volunteer spirit exhibited by all was high! Volunteers completed a multitude of improvements, including installing new concrete sidewalk, storm doors, bathroom renovations, exterior painting, yard clean-up, and a complete landscape overhaul, all in only a single day. We were even able to plant a small garden for the homeowner so that they could have fresh vegetables later in the year. This “neighbor helping neighbor” effort was very rewarding for all involved. The smile on the face of the homeowner brightened the day, and NFE was, once again proud to participate in this worthy event.
